Plutarch

But for me, I live in a little town, where I am willing to continue, lest it should grow less
--Plutarch

Hello, I'm Terry Smith, developer of Rt-82.com.  My personal website is tennisamigo.com.  On the tennis court, I want to help my partner, my amigo, to win the match.  Similarly, I want to help you take care of business so you can spend more time on the court, on the course, or even on the couch, one of my favorite destinations.

In a nutshell, my wife Erin and I have been married for 14 years, and we have four boys.  I've been a programmer at all kinds of businesses for over 20 years and have enjoyed every minute...well, maybe most of it.  I enjoy playing tennis and I have been coaching the Fairview Park JV boys tennis team for three years.  To develop my interest in  music, I enjoy singing in St. Richard's choir and playing piano at nursing homes and the local Holiday Inn.  I have a BS degree in Systems Analysis from Miami University.

Similar to Greek philosopher Plutarch above, who saw the value in returning to his hometown, I traveled to many places and returned.  I can't say I planned it that way, and I didn't exactly return to my hometown of Elyria, but I settled in the same general area, in North Olmsted.  My wife grew up in the area and we feel fortunate to have friends and family (including nephews who attended Midview schools) within relatively short driving distances.

In the end, it's all about freedom.  We want to be free to do what we want.  How does a free person live?  Starting with a lot of curiosity, he learns a few things, finds some things more interesting than others, then acts.  He may like trucking.  His neighbor down the road, she may enjoy cooking.  He may like golfing on the weekends.  She may like reading the Great Books of the Western World after a day's work.  With our friends we can share the interests we have in common, while as a community we share the understanding and the value of living free.

Living free means we choose our personal lifestyles and our politics.  It also means voluntarily cooperating to make a living by trading our skills and products with each other freely.  Route 82 may be just a road, similar to many others and unlike still others, but there's a lot of trading going on here that people may not be aware of.  Although this site is primarily commercial by nature, it's intended to raise awareness of what's available to all of us who live and work on or near 82.  That could involve profit and non-profit organizations, anything from golf to groceries, swings to sermons, or ceramics to chili.

The internet is just a tool.  Like any tool, it can be used for good or bad ends.  I want people to use Rt-82.com to learn what's available "down the road" and thereby prompt them to meet each other face to face.  It's my challenge, and pledge, to make Rt-82.com something that brings people out and together for our mutual benefit.

If you're not out to make a killing, just a living, as I am, please contact meAnd use Rt-82.com to support local businesses, restaurants, non-profits, and all the unique organizations "down the road".

Terry Smith
